Seeing that you did a post about Pokemon Uranium, have you ever heard of or played Pokemon Reborn or its sister game Pokemon Rejuvenation? These games also play with darker themes and provide an additional challenge of 18 gyms. They also added the mechanic of interacting with the environment through field effects, Terrain abilities and expanded on them greatly to create many interactive fields from forests to icy surfaces, and even a chessboard. Would you consider doing a post about them?

Well, I’ll finish this one first.  But maybe?  We’ll see.

Are you going to do the series where you decide whether a Pokemon is actually good or not for Alola?

Good question.  I mean, I’ll do some sort of individual review for each Pokémon once I’ve played the game, definitely.  I don’t know how much I want those to look like what I did for Unova and Kalos, though.  I think that depends on how I react to the overall feel of the whole group of 7th generation Pokémon.  Like, when I did Unova, a lot of the way I wrote those reviews was the result of my being frustrated about one particular decision and its consequences – namely, that Game Freak chose to use no pre-5th-generation Pokémon in Unova, but simultaneously undercut that decision by including so many designs that felt like one-for-one replacements for 1st-generation Pokémon (this one is here because they couldn’t have Pidgey, this one is here because they couldn’t have Geodude, this one is here because they couldn’t have Muk… etc).  And that’s why I did the whole “I hereby affirm/deny this Pokémon’s right to exist” thing, of course, because I had really strongly polarised feelings about… well, really everything in Black and White, not just the Pokémon designs.  I had very different feelings about Kalos; the Pokémon were… not better, Unova at its best is just as good as Kalos, but more consistent; I had trouble finding anything to seriously dislike in Kalos.  Well.  Except Dedenne.  But f%&k Dedenne.

So yeah, we’ll see what I think of Sun and Moon as a whole and go from there.  Honestly I’m even kind of toying with doing something really weird, like some sort of in-universe in-character discussion of the different Pokémon that just totally jumps off the deep end with respect to, like, being a review.  But I would have to see if I can make that work, or if I even like it.

Anonymous asks:

I’m not sure if this has been asked before, but do you have plans to review the previous generations of Pokémon? And when the new game comes out, do you intend to review those Pokémon as well?

I’ve never wanted to commit to doing old generations because I would die before ever finishing.  As for the new ones, well, I feel like I’m expected to, and I probably should, but I honestly don’t know if I want to because I’m just not convinced my Pokémon reviews are my best work anyway, so… I don’t know.  I suppose I probably will but I’m thinking about trying to come up with a different approach to generation VII.  We’ll see.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but do you plan on reviewing the entire Pokemon anime series? Or just Kanto, and then specific episodes that you find particularly interesting, or what’s the DEAL HERE, MAN

Put it this way: notionally I want to do the whole thing, but in practice, to say that I “plan on” it would be a bit of a stretch.  At my current rate of progress, I would be lucky to finish before the heat death of the universe.  So I’m just going through them more or less in order, as and when I feel like it.  Plans do not mesh well with real life responsibilities.

Would you ever consider dong reviews for Mega Evolutions like you did with the new Pokemon from Unoba and Kalos

Eh.  To be honest with you I’m not really interested in individual Mega Evolutions, because I tend to be most interested in the way Pokémon fit into the world/environment/society/etc as species, and in the case of Mega Evolved Pokémon, much of the point is that they resolutely just don’t.  As a general concept I think it’s worth rambling about at length – and I have – but at the moment something like that is not really on my radar at all.

witchesandmushi asks:

(Not the anon, but curious regardless) If you did do a Gym Leaders series, you could do it like the anime and do two or three Gym Leaders at once, united by element or theme or region, and you could definitely talk about their anime incarnations at the same time. That way we could get your opinion on Leaders and their Gyms in nice little packets and if there did turn out to be ones who you find yourself with a lot to say about, they could have their own posts.

Hmm.  Well, to be honest the likelihood of me doing this at any point in the near-to-medium future is slim to none, but if I ever find myself wanting ideas, I’ll bear that in mind.  Could be interesting to take it as a way of doing a thematic look at different types.

Anonymous asks:

why don’t you make a gym leaders series? like, i’m not telling you to do it, it’s just cool, i think. so yeah, hi.

I suppose because I’m not convinced I would have enough to say about each one to make it worthwhile.  They don’t have anything like the screentime or character development in the games that the rivals and Champions do, so it’s hard to think of stuff to comment on.  The anime is another matter, of course, but to be honest I’d rather just write about the anime than analyse specific characters in it.

Will you ever continue your Pokemon anime reviews? I find your speculation on the anime universe to be very interesting, and it’s actually what drew me to your blog in the first place. It’s a shame to stop without even completing the Indigo League.

Y’know you have actually commented on this at just the right moment, because I totally want that to be the next thing that I do (alternating with the ongoing Nuzlocke story).  I always meant to go back to those because I honestly think they are some of the best stuff I’ve written; I just never got around to it somehow.  But yeah, this is absolutely going to happen.

I read over a bit of your “If I was in charge”, and have you ever considered joining up with some spriters and coders to make it a reality? I mean, there are projects dedicated to creating new Pokemon fan games, and hacks besides, and couldn’t the people who make those be just as willing to make something spectacular?

Eh… not that it isn’t a nice thought, but… too much work.  Far too much work.  I can barely keep up with my regular writing at the moment.

So, now that we have had mega evolution for a while, do you think you could make some mega-evolution designs for some of the pokemon on your ‘worst pokemon’ list?

Eh.  To be honest, designing mega evolutions for things is not something that I find all that interesting.  And I actually did sketch out concepts for evolutions for most of those Pokémon, so, like… it would kind of serve exactly the same purpose as what I did with them in the first place.
