So I found a wild Vileplume in my house in Pokemon GO and decided to name it Chris :).
This pleases me. Let it be known that, when Pokémon are named after me (especially Grass Pokémon, and especially ones in the Vileplume line), my spiritual power increases, bringing me closer to eventual domination of the earth. Go now, my minions, and continue to do my dark bidding.
Would you like to see a Mega Vileplume?
Yes and no… I mean, Vileplume is my favourite Pokémon so, like, if you want to give her cool stuff, go right ahead, but I don’t know if the pile of extra stats associated with mega evolution necessarily solves the problems that she has. With the exception of Slowbro, Sableye and Aggron, most top-tier mega Pokémon are offensive powerhouses, and that’s not really what Vileplume is trying to do anyway. I think her real problem is that her hidden ability (Effect Spore) is just bloody useless, and her regular ability (Chlorophyll) is amazing but completely mismatched to her role. You could use mega evolution to cheat in a replacement ability, I suppose, but honestly I would much rather just add a second regular ability; most Pokémon have two, and giving Vileplume something a) really strong and b) different from what other Grass-type supporters have would, I think, just about do it.
Hi just curious, why did you decide to put Vileplume and Bellossom into different houses? And what does it mean for Oddish and Gloom to belong to two houses? (Disclaimer: I don’t watch GoT)
As for what it means, probably nothing. I guess just some Oddish are born into “House Vileplume” and some into “House Bellossom.” As to why I gave them two different sets of house words… well, I’m not 100% consistent on how I deal with split evolutions. Vileplume and Bellossom are separate because the most compelling mottos I could come up with were ones that emphasised the day/night contrast between the two. Some other split evolutions are going to get a single shared motto because I felt their most important traits applied to both of them. Nidoqueen and Nidoking technically aren’t a split evolution, but again, they share the motto “By Our Royal Blood” because the most important thing about them is their emphasis on family, which only makes sense when they’re together. Eevee, when we get to her, has her own house and motto because she is special.
House Vileplume: In Dusk We Bloom
Vileplume is your favorite Pokemon, right? How do you feel about Bellossom?
Eh, Bellossom is just too happy for my taste. We were put on this world to experience pain, hardship and death, Bellossom, not sing about how great the damn sun is.
Seriously, though, Bellossom is fine, and I like the weird sun-worship thing that they do, and the way that contrasts with Oddish being mainly a nocturnal Pokémon and having moonlight-related powers. But I don’t really have any strong opinions on her, one way or the other.
Imagine that you have been hired to become a gym leader/elite four. You must have a team of one main type only, maybe with an extra pokemon of a different type added in there. What type would you choose, and what would your team be?
One main type only? Pssht. Bo-ring.

Personally, I think the whole single-type Gym deal is getting a bit old. I do believe Gyms should have unifying themes, and often a single type is a nice way of doing that, but I’d like to see some Gyms with more abstract themes, like the Viridian Gym of Heart Gold and Soul Silver, which is based around not a type but a move – Trick Room.
